Natural Gas and Electricity Markets Deregulate in New York State
The Natural Gas and Electricity markets in New York State were deregulated in 1997 to promote competition. Companies that choose to participate in deregulation are called ESCO's. ESCO stands for Energy Service COmpany. This is what Columbia Utilities is designated, a Natural Gas and Electricity ESCO.
We at Columbia Utilities saw an opportunity to serve our previous customers, those who converted to Natural Gas, with our service and courtesy we are known for that they experienced first hand.
We also saw a new segment of customers that was never available to us. This new segment is a customer that never had Oil, and had only dealt with the local Utility.
We wanted to show these new customers that you can still get personal service despite the fact that your home or business uses Natural Gas and Electricity. Thanks to the benefits of Deregulation we are also able to save our Natural Gas and Electricity customers money on their bills compared to them purchasing their Natural Gas and Electricity from the Utility.
