Columbia Utilities Partners with Habitat for Humanity New York City to Power Homes in Brooklyn and Queens

Columbia Utilities strengthens its commitment to local communities by donating a year’s worth of electricity and gas to two Habitat for Humanity homes

BROOKLYN, NY – January 21, 2015 – Columbia Utilities, a family owned and operated energy supply company, announced today a new partnership with Habitat for Humanity New York City, an organization that transforms lives by building quality homes with families in need. Through the Home Energy Sponsorship, Columbia Utilities will donate the funds for a year’s worth of electricity and gas to two Habitat for Humanity homes in Brooklyn and Queens to help families transition into their new homes.

High-energy costs associated with cold winters and first-time home ownership often burden the community’s neediest families, who are forced to make difficult financial choices such as sacrificing comforts—like heating and cooling that many others consider necessities—to pay rent or healthcare expenses. Columbia Utilities and Habitat for Humanity New York City will address this great need by working together.

“As a family-owned company based in Brooklyn since 1938, we strongly believe in supporting New Yorkers in need,” said Robert Palmese, President of Columbia Utilities. “Partnering with Habitat for Humanity New York City, an organization with deep commitment to the New York local community, is an exciting way to amplify our joint efforts.”

“We are proud to call Columbia Utilities a partner of Habitat for Humanity New York City. Columbia Utilities shares Habitat NYC’s goals of serving families and neighborhoods with integrity,” said Alex Havriliak, acting CEO of Habitat for Humanity New York City.

Columbia Utilities’ partnership with Habitat for Humanity New York City is part of the ongoing “Columbia Cares®” initiative, a larger effort to give back to the communities in which Columbia Utilities operates. In December 2013, Columbia Utilities launched “Columbia Cares®” with the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO). For every new customer who participates, Columbia Cares® donates $1 every month to ACCO for each gas and/or electric account, with no limit to how much can be donated. In January 2014, Columbia Utilities announced that it has reached its donation goal of $10,000 but will continue to offer customers the opportunity to donate to ACCO.

Columbia Utilities and PALMco Exceeds $10,000 Donation Goal for the American Childhood Cancer Organization

Columbia Utilities and PALMco Exceeds $10,000 Donation Goal for the American Childhood Cancer Organization

“Columbia Cares®” and “PALMco Cares®” Will Continue Donating to Raise Awareness of ACCO’s Mission

Brooklyn, NY, February 4, 2014 – Columbia Utilities and PALMco, family owned and operated energy supply companies, have already reached their goal to raise $10,000 for the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), one of the largest national organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with cancer and their families, by the end of 2014.

In December 2013, Columbia Utilities and PALMco announced their partnership with ACCO, pledging to donate $1 every month for every participating new customer’s gas and/or electric account, with a goal of $10,000 by the end of 2014. Through “Columbia Cares®” and “PALMco Cares®,” customers are able to make an impact on the lives of others by simply paying their utility bills. There is no limit to how much can be donated, making it both Columbia Utilities’ and PALMco’s most significant partnership to date.

“The eagerness to donate to ACCO has been truly extraordinary; in the last two weeks of December alone, our customers helped us raise nearly $7,000 for ACCO,” said Robert Palmese, President of Columbia Utilities and PALMco. “Reaching our $10,000 goal so quickly demonstrates the incredible generosity of our loyal customers and their clear desire to turn a mundane task like paying the utility bill into a thoughtful act of giving back. We thank each and every customer who participated in making a big impact on the lives of children battling this deadly disease. Columbia Utilities and PALMco will continue to donate to ACCO throughout the year and help children and their families receive the care and attention they deserve.”

“As any parent can testify, there is nothing more frightening than the thought of their child being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. As the Executive Director of the American Childhood Cancer Organization, I can personally testify that there is also nothing more hopeful for parents whose children have been diagnosed with cancer than the support that comes from individuals and communities who embrace this cause. The childhood cancer burden is easier to bear because of the generous support of individuals like Robert Palmese, companies like Columbia Utilities and PALMco, and their customers. ACCO is incredibly grateful to be the recipient of the funds being generated from people supporting children with cancer through the paying of their utility bills,” noted Ruth Hoffman, Executive Director of the American Childhood Cancer Organization.

With a new year starting, Columbia Utilities and PALMco hope to expand this critical partnership by hosting additional fundraising events and bringing more awareness to ACCO’s work and mission. ACCO has been providing essential treatment information and support to families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer since 1970. Started by parents, ACCO remains the largest grassroots voice of children with cancer in the country.

Columbia Utilities and PALMco are sister companies, based in Brooklyn, New York, and owned and operated by the same family. Columbia Utilities supplies electricity, gas, and oil in New York, while PALMco supplies electricity and gas in Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Columbia Utilities and PALMco Announce New Partnership with the American Childhood Cancer Organization

Columbia Utilities and PALMco Announce New Partnership with the American Childhood Cancer Organization

Pledge to Donate at Least $10,000 through “Columbia Cares®” and “PALMco Cares®”

Brooklyn, NY, December 9, 2013 – Columbia Utilities and PALMco, family owned and operated energy supply companies, announced today a major new partnership with the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), one of the largest national organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with cancer and their families.

Through “Columbia Cares®” and “PALMco Cares®,” Columbia Utilities and PALMco customers will be able to make an impact on the lives of others by simply paying their utility bills. Both campaigns pledge to donate at least $10,000 in total by the end of 2014.

ACCO has been providing essential treatment information and support to families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer since 1970. Started by parents, ACCO remains the largest grassroots voice of children with cancer in the country.

“Being a family owned business, we feel a special connection with ACCO not only because it was founded by a group of parents, but also because it is a strong voice and pillar of support for all families of children with cancer,” said Robert Palmese, President of Columbia Utilities and PALMco. “The partnership enables customers to turn an everyday task like paying their utility bills into an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. As a father myself, I am proud to do my part to help ACCO, and hope customers will join us in aiding families to combat this deadly disease.”

“While childhood cancer has seen an improvement in survival since our organization’s founding, sadly, childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease of America’s children,” said Ruth Hoffman, ACCO’s Executive Director. “The needs are great and ACCO is thankful for this partnership with Columbia Utilities and PALMco. We are grateful to their customers who can so easily make a difference in the lives of these courageous children because kids can’t fight cancer alone.”

For every new customer who participates, Columbia Utilities and PALMco will donate $1 every month to ACCO for each gas and/or electric account. There is no limit to how much can be donated and both companies will continue their monthly donation for all loyal customers, making it Columbia Utilities’ and PALMco’s most significant partnership to date.

This new partnership comes at a time when nonprofit organizations such as ACCO are experiencing fundraising challenges. Now more than ever, nonprofits are recognizing the value of corporate partnerships, which can bring awareness and much needed funds to their cause. Columbia Utilities and PALMco hope to expand this critical partnership by hosting additional fundraising events and bringing more awareness to ACCO’s work and mission.

Columbia Utilities and PALMco are sister companies, based in Brooklyn, New York, and owned and operated by the same family. Columbia Utilities supplies electricity, gas, and oil in New York, while PALMco supplies gas and electricity in Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
